Goonies Never Say Die

The Goonies is a favorite movie from the 80s and many of its scenes were filmed in and around Astoria. We see many fans of the film visiting our community each week, some making the journey just to see the “goondocks” themselves and others adding it on to a trip to the Northwest or Astoria.

Goonies Events

Back in 2005 we held an community wide event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Goonies theatrical release. The event included appearances by actors Jeff “Chunk” Cohen, Curt “Mr. Perkins” Hanson and Sean “Mikey” Astin, bus tours to locations with guided tours of THE house, bowling night at “Chunk’s Alley,” several opportunities to meet other fans including a VIP Dinner gathering with local crew, Cohen and Hanson, and of course many showings of The Goonies at our local theater.

25th Anniversary Event

We are gearing up for an even bigger celebration June 4-7, 2010 for the 25th anniversary. Stay tuned to this page for more details as they come available. Here are some components for the 25th Anniversary Celebration we are considering, nothing is concrete in our planning just yet though:
Bus tours of all movie locations & goonies locations
Grand Opening of the Oregon Film Museum at Clatsop County Jail (aka Goonies Jail)
VIP dinner event with cast and relatively small fan group
Brunch on final day, but more of a farewell party than a VIP type thing
Autograph signing depending on cast that are present – maybe a symposium type forum with Q & A
The Goonies Vacation – Documentary showing
Movie showings of the Goonies, maybe a “Shot in Astoria” film festival that weekend or another time that summer
Concert at Warren Field – working out details and costs now
Geocache/treasure hunt
80s party with costumes, music, trivia, look alikes, etc. Encourage local nightlife spots to bring in 80s cover bands, DJs, themed trivia night or dinner specials
Bowling at “Chunk’s Bowling Alley”
Parade along the kids’ bike route through Astoria ???
Talent/variety show type event with fans providing the entertainment ???
Local Breweries are already working up special brews to tie in with The Goonies
BBQ picnic/social at Ecola State Park for all the fans and castmembers
