This tour is an ideal introduction to kayaking. We will begin at the dock at Skamokawa Center, then paddle into the protected waters of historic Steamboat Slough where osprey nest close to the water and a heron rookery is active from February until mid-June. Just before lunch on a sandy beach, we will paddle a short distance on the main channel of the Columbia River. We will leave the Columbia River behind as we enter the Elochoman River estuary and kayak through the sloughs of the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge, which bears the second-largest Sitka spruce swamp on the Columbia. We will paddle past the former site of a Wahkiakum village where Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery stopped to trade, before we end the day at the Cathlamet marina. Traveling with the current, we will maintain an easy pace with time for exploration, photography, and practice of newly acquired kayaking skills.

Advance reservations are required. For information contact Carla at 360-795-8300 or email info@skamokawakayak.com
