N. C. Symphonic Band

The North Coast Symphonic Band will perform a free concert of patriotic and popular music at 7 P.M. on Saturday, July 3, 2010, in the historic Liberty Theater in downtown Astoria. Larry Johnson, of Oregon City, will conduct a music ensemble of approximately fifty-five musicians featuring great wind band literature from traditional to contemporary. A color guard from the U.S. Coast Guard Group / Air Station Astoria will present the colors and post members from American Legion Clatsop Post 12 will present the service flags while the North Coast Symphonic Band plays the military service hymns to honor veterans and active members of the military and their families. Back by popular demand will be a programmatic piece about Mount Mazama featuring Native American flute solos by Janet Bowler. The concert will feature a seasonal mix of marches, military service hymns, big band scores, and patriotic songs for America’s birthday. All North Coast residents and summer guests are invited to pack the Liberty for this ever popular display of patriotism and music. For more information, contact 503-325-2431.
