Goonies Day 2012
Celebrate beloved film, The Goonies, in the town it was filmed – Astoria, Oregon!
As a part of the Goonies 25th Anniversary Celebration in 2010, Mayor Willis Van Dusen declared June 7 to be officially recognized as Goonies Day in Astoria, Oregon. This date is special to Astorians because it is the anniversary of the day the film was released into theaters in 1985. The Astoria-Warrenton Chamber encourages fans, both local and abroad, to celebrate the anniversary.
Film fans in Astoria will enjoy a number of activities and specials on Goonies Day and throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for more details!
The Oregon Film Museum celebrates the art and legacy of films and film-making in the State of Oregon. Housed in the old Clatsop County Jail, known to Goonies fans as the scene of the opening jail break, the museum invites visitors to explore this and other films and the production behind making movies in Oregon. The Oregon Film Museum has recently expanded their exhibits to further tell the story of Oregon Film, including recent acquisition of a replica of the Goonies “Fratelli Jeep” and interactive “green screen” exhibits.
We have not invited any cast members to join us this year due to budget restrictions. Activities on Goonies Day will ramp up as the date approaches the weekend, and the 30th anniversary in 2015. This year it is all about fan appreciation in Astoria!
