2012 Schedule
Makani E Friday 4/27/12 4 – 6:15 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
Aloha! This husband and wife duo out of Bremerton, Washington is a Hawaii Tribute band playing well-known traditional and contemporary music of Hawaii. You’ll be swept away to the sweet serenading melodies which include notes of jazz, blues and flamenco.
The Slants Friday, 4/27/12 6:30 – 8:45 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
Aron Moxley is a Vietnamese refugee who grew up in Astoria leads the synthesizer driven rock band that will bring you to your feet. The group’s signature “Chinatown Dance Rock” sounds like an 80s dance party mixed with modern indie rock. The band is often compared to Depeche Mode, The Faint, The Cure, The Bravery, Joy Division and the Killers.
Barney Perrine Friday, 4/27/12 4 – 6 pm & Sunday, 4/29/12 11 – 2 pm Food Tent
NW Pan Man Terry Baber Saturday, 4/28/12 10 – 2pm Food Tent
Terry Baber relocated his family back to his wife’s NW hometown after 16 years in Orlando, Florida. He is an accomplished musician with more than 30 years of professional experience as a trombonist, steel pan drummer, harmonica and conch shell player! Terry is also a composer/arranger for brass groups worldwide. You can also find him entertaining walkers/runners before the Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce Great Columbia Crossing 10k event every fall!
Summit Express Jazz Band Saturday, 4/28/12 10 – 12:30 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
Taking Dixieland Jazz To New Heights is a fitting slogan for this high energy band from Bend,Oregon. All of these versatile musicians are equally at home in the Symphony playing Beethoven as they are on the street corner playing Louis Armstrong. The magic with this group exists in the the way they interact with the audience. Humor and the unexpected play a big part in the show. No one plays Folsom Prison Blues like this band.
Excellent Gentlemen Saturday, 4/28/12 1 – 4 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
Excellent Gentlemen plays danceable, vocal soul r&b music. Think ’70s block parties and the foundations of golden-age hip-hop records. Their music stands for positivity, love, happiness and getting sexy; this is definitely NOT the drudgery of mediocre Indie-Rock. Their adopted home of Portland, OR has welcomed with open arms the injection of real live dance party music played by real live musicians. On the strength of their incredible live show, the independently-run band has ignited an adoring fan base and has become the hot touring funk act in the Pacific Northwest.
Billy & the Rockets Saturday, 4/28/12 4:30 – 7:45 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
A little Country twang mixed with some Southern, Delta Blues and cool gospel harmonies creates a musical potion that will have you tappin’ your toes to one of the hottest specialty bands to hit the Northwest. “Billy & the Rockets” a four piece combo of “hep cats” from the Willamette Valley in Oregon perform a fast paced, hard driving show reminiscent of the early days of raw Rockabilly and Rhythm & Blues.
Astoria High School Jazz Band Sunday, 4/29/12 11 – 2 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
The Astoria High School Jazz Band is comprised of 9th through 12th grade musicians. They are so dedicated to music; they start their school day every morning at 7:00 a.m. for practice. The band studies all of the various styles of jazz including Dixieland, swing, bebop, funk and Latin. The group also provided the professional entertainment during the Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet in January of 2011.
The Neil Henderson Band Sunday, 4/29/12 1:30 – 3:45 pm Exhibit Hall Main Stage
The Neil Henderson Band is a unique blend of blues and contemporary rock. Neil has performed with major artists as Rod Stewart, Melissa Ethridge and Charlie Daniels. Guitarist Jeff Barnes, formally with the Curtis Salgado Band, brings together the complete feel of their blues/rock sound. Look for special artists showing up at shows!
Bruce Smith
Sound Technician
Bruce Smith, of North Coast Records in Seaside, provides all of the sound and technical assistance for all of the musicians on the Main Stage during the Astoria Warrenton Chamber of Commerce Crab, Seafood & Wine Festival. Bruce is also an entertainer and is part of the Award Winning CD compilation “Bridges,” here in the NW. Bruce’s song, “You leave the Mark” is track 9 on the CD. It was voted Best Compilation of 2007 by MUSIC SPECTATOR magazine at the 2008 Portland Music Awards! You can learn more about his talent at http://www.brucesmithmusic.com.
