KMUN Radio Station

We, the Board of Directors of the non-profit Tillicum Foundation, operators of Coast Community Radio, join in extending our gratitude for the significant support Business Members have provided Coast Community Radio. It is recognized that with support such as theirs, KMUN has grown to become by far the most listened-to station in our region.

And in turn, we are hopeful that given the station’s estimated 12,800 unique listeners each week, the on-air announcements being made of Business support may be helping to further their business interests as well. Especially in today’s economy, it’s worth considering why. Why, when listenership is shrinking nationwide for commercial radio has support for non-commercial radio from the coasts of northern Oregon and southern Washington fared so much better? Together it seems we’re part of a trend. As reported by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance in their survey of more than 1,800 independent businesses in 100 markets nationwide, businesses having strong community roots and local ownership increased their sales in 2009 by a larger percentage than did their chain store competitors.* Locally operated and independent since 1983, Coast Community Radio is determined to continue strengthening the awareness our community has of Business Members and of the importance of their support. And with our all-embracing music mix, public affairs programs, announcements of events and even lost pets, truly support for one another is what we have in KMUN.
