Astoria Chinese Park - Garden of Surging Waves

The Garden of Surging Waves- Astoria Chinese Heritage is a garden, located in Astoria, Oregon, designed to commemorate the Chinese heritage of many Astorians past and present.

The name itself has undergone a mini evolution starting out simply as the “The Chinese Park” in 2005. Since then, it has also been referred to as the Chinese Interpretive Park, Chinese Garden, Chinese Commemorative Garden, Astoria Chinese Interpretive Garden, Astoria Chinese Commemorative Park, and the Astoria Chinese Heritage Park.

In October 2009 Mr. Huo, a Chinese philanthropist (see “In the News”), announced his donation of a bronze sculpture to the garden and was given the honor of naming the site. The final name was chosen by a collaboration of Mr. Huo; Dr. Charles Wu, Professor Emeritus Reed College and board member of the Portland Lan Su Chinese Garden; and Suenn Ho, Senior Designer for MulvannyG2 Architects.

The Chinese Pronunciation of Garden of Surging Waves is Cang Lang Yuan.
